Our Client Director

Sabrina Manansala

Joined The Ortus Club on the 18th of February, 2019

From the onset, Sabrina has always held a passion for building client relationships.

She first started as a Project Coordinator in the company and gradually progressed to become The Ortus Club’s Client Director.

Tell us about your current role at The Ortus Club and how you got there.

I am a Client Director of the APAC region. I started as a Project Coordinator and worked my way up to Project Director. My enthusiasm and energy when working with clients resulted in me being offered different accounts and more projects, eventually leading to my current role.

In addition, I have always been interested in organisation development and, more recently, I have been involved in HR initiatives, creating activities that focus on building rapport and strengthening bonds within our growing company.

The Ortus Club has a very flexible approach to the work-life balance and encourages staff to maintain their other interests. I am particularly grateful for this because, as an artist, I have been able to continue with my events and performances outside work. The company has taught me the importance of time management, commitment and will-power.

“The company has taught me the importance of time management, commitment and will-power.”

What first made you join the Ortus team?

Just before graduating, I attended an interview for a Project Coordinator role at The Ortus Club. I was impressed by the company as it offered the opportunity to learn about the industries we normally use every day but know little about (i.e. Adobe, Viber, Zendesk, etc.) combined with a role I am passionate about: events, through leadership and knowledge-sharing. I enjoy putting together a corporate networking event that meets. or even surpasses, expectations.

What do you like most about working with The Ortus Club?

The Ortus Club is growing rapidly, and the team has the chance to develop at the same pace. I love that the company is very focused on what it offers: exclusive events to encourage networking and growth for its clients, both on a business and personal level. The Ortus Club is also very supportive of its own team, and we are encouraged to support each other in asking for help.

What is your favourite part of your role?

It’s all about the team. We have such an incredible group that just clicks. Everyone is driven to deliver outstanding results, but we make sure to have fun along the way, too. Time management and results-driven processes are important in our fast-paced world of curating events for C-level executives.

One of our core values at Ortus is ‘Always Deliver’—and I take that responsibility seriously. There’s nothing more rewarding than impressing a client by exceeding their expectations through our hard work and seamless teamwork. Working alongside this talented and dedicated crew, following our tried and tested approach, and still keeping up with current market trends is what I love most.

What’s one achievement you are particularly proud of?

Bringing in huge enterprises that we closely work with in different regions, such as AWS, PayPal, Dropbox, and Visa, to name a few, who are revolutionary in their contribution to the tech industry. Similarly, the many global events I have done with them wouldn’t have been possible without the project team and the account managers I have trained to work alongside these prominent client names. This is also something I am very proud of: honing future leaders that create a holistic guest experience for our senior executives. Without the people that I have worked with and connected with during these past years, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this.

What’s the most challenging part of your role, and how do you overcome this challenge?

The most challenging part of my role is the ever-changing landscape of marketing needs and requirements. Every day, there is a different challenge or exciting problem to solve; every day, as the partnerships leader, you have to be ready to accept what comes knocking on your door and face it head-on. There is no one way to solve something; what matters is perspective and your openness to come up with different options with the set of objectives still in mind. Being adaptable and ready is something I believe helps me overcome difficult tasks and situations.

When you’re not at work, how do you spend your time?

I focus a lot of my energy on community building and the arts, particularly in the areas of improvisational theatre, songwriting, and dance, as well as personal development and the means of communities. I run a community built on creating safe spaces for people to be able to share and acknowledge their emotions and personal experiences that make them who they are.

In the part of improvisational theatre, I run workshops around the ASEAN region, like Singapore, Vietnam, and Taipei, based on the improv principles of ‘Yes, and’ connecting with your scene partners and making bold choices. I feel like I use these three improv principles a lot in the work that I do with Ortus as well.

A lot of these things are well integrated together, even if I do them separately at work or outside of work. Improvisation principles are basically a foundation in terms of how I interact with my clients, how I do my sales calls, and whatnot. Overall, my time spent outside of work focuses on community building and expanding my knowledge and skills in the arts, specifically improvisational theatre.

What are you excited about for the future of The Ortus Club?

I am looking forward to The Ortus Club expanding into other countries where industries are starting to grow. As more people join the company, we can take on new initiatives and projects. Of course, we are all excited about returning in the near future to hosting our physical events. We started hosting dinner events in Singapore last year – let’s hope that we can return to other locations very soon. Look out, world, here we come!
