TOPIC

Bridge the gap: Upskilling and reskilling for an increasingly digital future

In today’s rapidly changing tech-driven world, digital skills are becoming less of a luxury and more of a necessity for businesses of all sizes to operate efficiently and effectively. Digital skills provide substantial economic benefits to countries and regions where workers with advanced digital skills – such as cloud architecture and software development – are raising GDP by staggering amounts. Advanced digital skills have also been shown to increase business revenue and result in increased job satisfaction for workers. Thus, organisations are increasingly looking to upskill their workforces in order to remain competitive, innovative and to thrive.

As more organizations move to cloud and new technologies emerge, digitization is going to fuel a vast number of new jobs. The cloud offers numerous benefits for organisations, but, in order to realise these benefits, organisations need employees with the skills to manage and use cloud-based technologies effectively. By upskilling, organisations can ensure that they have the skills they need to succeed in the
digital age. However, this is easier said than done, and organisations cannot wait for skills gap problems to fix themselves.

  • How can leaders improve their cloud fluency and improve the digital skills of their existing workforce? What digital and cloud skills must be prioritised to be successful in the future?
  • How can companies rectify the under-representation of women, Māori, and Pasifika in tech-based roles?
  • How can organisations reliably and effectively grow their workforce’s digital skills to support future talent? What strategies are being explored?
