Shanghai: China’s Innovation Cluster?
KPMG recently selected Shanghai as the front-runner in its report on the next global innovation centres due to its “growing base of digital media and entertainment companies,” among others. The study highlighted Shanghai’s strong position in terms of the availability of educational programs, and access to tech infrastructure and capital, among other factors.
While the future of the city as an innovation hub is promising, several issues need to be addressed. Restricted domestic labour mobility and strict visa requirements limit the ability to gather top global talent. Shanghai’s rise has also not been unrivalled. The Silicon Delta and Beijing’s Zhongguancun could challenge Shanghai’s positioning as a leading hub at the international level.
We will be discussing:
- Does the future of Chinese growth lie on technological innovation?
- How can Shanghai leverage its status as the country’s pre-eminent commercial and financial centre to fuel innovation and entrepreneurship?
- How can tech companies make use of the Yangtze River Delta economic zone as it integrates into a “mega-cluster”?
- How can companies in Shanghai attract global talent?
