The Bay Area: The Epicenter of the US Talent Crisis
Record high housing prices, the emergence of new tech cities and higher salary expectations are placing increased pressure on both mature and startup companies to attract and retain top talent in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The LinkedIn 2019 Workforce Report identifies the Bay Area as having the largest skills shortage of any City in the USA across all skills needed by employers. The largest shortages are within IT & Tech related fields. A problem likely to intensify even further as half of the Bay Area’s mid-career tech workers is beginning to seek opportunities outside the Valley. Even, the Unicorns are leaving. Lending Club, announced it will downsize its presence on the west coast by 41% before year-end due to costs and lack of access to affordable talent. Companies need to look at alternative strategies to remain competitive and innovative in a rapidly changing business ecosystem. One such alternative strategy is tapping growing international talent pools in emerging business hubs.
