The power of edge computing: Optimising operations with local devices

As companies increasingly rely on IoT technologies, there comes a burgeoning need for faster connections between local systems and data centres either in the cloud or remote premises. Considering the sheer amount of data required and generated by these devices, reliance on subpar connectivity, such as WAN, is a constant barrier to efficient operations. Furthermore, security requirements increase for IoT where suppliers are inaccessible. The choice seems binary: slow down or spend exponentially more.

However, equipped with the technologies built around edge computing, companies can greatly reduce latency, effectively manage expenses, and increase overall operational efficiency. But, first, companies must have the proper adoption and offloading strategy in place to reap the benefits.

  • How has growth in IoT usage benefited companies in recent years? What are some of the drawbacks?
  • What can companies do to drive agility across distributed teams and locations? What technologies are being considered?
  • What role will edge computing play in the future of operations? How can companies future-proof growth?
