Since 2019, ZTNA has gone from mere theory to increasingly standard practice. Early products on the market focused on web applications but have expanded to work with a wider range of apps and protocols. Today, it helps significantly reduce the attack surface area for different organizations while improving user experience, flexibility, and adaptability.
The rise of more sophisticated threat actors, like those engaged in phishing, has driven the scale of ZTNA adoption. The FBI received around 324,000 phishing-related complaints and reported adjusted losses of $2.4 billion due to Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks in 2021 alone. It is no surprise, then, that leaders are shoring up their defenses.
