As Head of Events for the European and North American regions at The Ortus Club, Mariana De La Torre brings a passion for excellence and a belief in the power of teamwork to her role. Her journey to this position reflects her relentless hard work and genuine enthusiasm for event management. Tell us about your role at The Ortus Club and how you got there.

I am the Head of Events at The Ortus Club, and I oversee all aspects of event operations in the European and North American regions. My responsibilities include conducting comprehensive research to ensure we are always ahead of the curve, maintaining strict budget control to maximise our resources, and negotiating the best deals and partnerships to provide top-notch experiences for our clients. I also ensure that every event runs as smoothly as possible, from planning to execution.

I got to this position through a combination of relentless hard work and a genuine passion for event management. My journey is guided by my commitment to excellence and a belief in the power of teamwork. I view my team as an extension of myself, and I firmly believe that our collective success is what truly matters. When my team and I achieve great results, it is a shared victory that brings a feeling of success to everyone involved.

 

What’s the most exciting part of your role?

The most exciting part of my role is undoubtedly the opportunity to interact with people from all corners of the globe. This international exposure allows me to learn about diverse cultures and different ways of working, which is incredibly enriching both professionally and personally. Each interaction brings a fresh perspective and new insights that make my job dynamic and constantly evolving.

Being able to connect with a variety of professionals, understand their unique challenges, and collaborate with them to create memorable experiences is a rewarding experience. It’s fascinating to see how different cultural backgrounds influence approaches to problem-solving and creativity. These multicultural opportunities not only broaden my horizons but also help me develop more inclusive and versatile event strategies.

 

What’s the most challenging part of your role, and how do you overcome this challenge?

Currently, the most challenging aspect of my role is managing everything on my own. Ensuring that events run smoothly, meeting strict timelines, and upholding our high standards can be quite demanding. And so, I truly want to thank our team in the EU and North America, as well as Mozes, for being there for me always. On the other hand, This challenge is also a source of inspiration for me. The quality of the work we deliver is a reflection of our commitment and professionalism, so I am driven to always perform at my best.

To overcome this challenge, I prioritise clear and effective communication. Whenever I’m faced with a heavy workload or tight deadlines, I make sure to communicate openly with my team and the stakeholders involved. This helps manage expectations and foster collaborative efforts where everyone is on the same page. Additionally, I practice mindfulness and stress management techniques, such as deep breathing and staying organised, to maintain focus and composure. These strategies enable me to navigate the complexities of my role and consistently deliver high-quality results.

 

What’s one achievement you are particularly proud of?

One achievement I am particularly proud of is proving to myself that I am capable of managing events in the entire region. This accomplishment has been a testament to my ability in handling multiple responsibilities and still delivering successful outcomes. The support and motivation from my team have played a crucial role in this achievement.

Despite the changes in team members, the unwavering support from the entire team has been instrumental. Their encouragement and assistance have provided a solid foundation for me to excel in my role. My experience in this role has reinforced the importance of teamwork and the positive impact of a supportive work environment. It has also shown me that with dedication and the right support, we can achieve remarkable things.

 

What do you like most about working with The Ortus Club?

What I like most about working with The Ortus Club is the rich multicultural environment and the trust my team, especially the managers, place in me. Being part of an organisation where different cultures and perspectives are valued is incredibly fulfilling. It creates an atmosphere of inclusivity and continuous learning, where every day brings new opportunities to grow and innovate.

Their trust in me and my capabilities is empowering. They believe in my skill to deliver high-level work and know they can rely on me, even when I am on the other side of the world! This level of trust and confidence motivates me to maintain high standards and strive for excellence in everything I do.
