Our Marketing Specialist
Mitch Fermin
Mitch joined The Ortus Club on February 8, three years after she’d stumbled across Ortus’ website back in 2018. Taking her interest in knowledge-sharing with her, she has thrived in her journey as a marketing specialist. In this meet the team post, Mitch shares about her Ortus journey, the challenges she had overcome, and the future she’s looking forward to.
How did you end up in your current role?
In 2018, I stumbled upon Ortus’ website on Google’s 10th page while gathering knowledge-sharing (KS) journal articles for my college research paper. KS is still a new concept in the academic field and a challenging business to sustain, so I was surprised to learn Ortus offers KS services worldwide and was more impressed by its branding. Since then, it became my ultimate goal to apply once I was ready for the corporate world. Fast-forward to Feb 2021, my birth month, I submitted my resumé and passed my interview! Woo, yay me! To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on working during the pandemic. I wanted to explore internships in the legal sector and travel more, but I felt like I should stop going around and have a permanent job already!
I am in charge of the marketing collaterals, HR partnerships, and global suppliers for gifting and printables in my current role. It’s an exciting position to learn the ropes of marketing operations.
What’s the most challenging part of your job as a marketing coordinator, and how do you overcome this challenge?
Booking gifts for our guests, moderators, and clients across the globe can be stressful. You have to be cautious of the shipping fees and handling of the parcels, and make sure they arrive safely. When feeling overwhelmed, it’s best to take a deep breath, step away from the screen for 3-5 minutes, and rationalize the next steps to take.
What does a typical day at The Ortus Club look like?
I exercise first in the morning. I make sure I have enough endorphins or happy hormones before I officially start my day!
From 9 am to 6 pm, I respond to current and potential suppliers, update our event collaterals, assist in other marketing and HR tasks, and finalise partnership requests. After my shift, I video chat with my Ortus besties, Megan and Vinci! It’s important to have a good support system and socialise with your workmates during or after work hours, most especially now we’re in a WFH set-up.

Where do you see yourself in the Marketing department in the next year?
I look forward to continuing supporting Hannah, our Marketing Head, in improving the branding of our collaterals, building more valuable business relationships with suppliers, and being proactive in tasting events. I’m also ready to try something new to grow as a marketing specialist and create promotional content with the team. I’d love to learn more and welcome Ortus opportunities ahead.
When you’re not at work, how do you spend your time?
I like being around plants and trees. I would always go downstairs to destress around our village’s garden, or I would play with our pet bird! Most of the time, I watch basketball and war films with my dad and Korean dramas with my mom and sister.
What’s one thing you are excited about, thinking about the future of Ortus?
Working with my Marketing baes is an absolute dream. It would be great to see the Marketing department grow and our roles evolve even more! We have a very collaborative atmosphere, and we support each other on almost every challenging task. We are open and transparent. Another’s strong point counters everyone’s weak point. Not only are we learning more about marketing operations, but we are also teaching each other a great deal about pursuing our passion projects and rekindling our old hobbies.
