From sales to operations to leading the events team, Yna’s journey at The Ortus Club has been an adventure fueled by passion and opportunity. As the Head of Events in APAC and ANZ, she guides a team dedicated to curating unique, boundary-pushing experiences for executive gatherings worldwide. In this post, Yna shares the excitement of captivating venues and what she values most—the trust that clients place in Ortus to innovate signature experiences through the transformative power of knowledge sharing.

Tell us about your role at The Ortus Club and how you got there.

My journey at The Ortus Club is a story of passion meeting opportunity, where each step has been a thrilling adventure. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity has taken me through many departments; I started in sales, gaining firsthand insights into our services, clients, and why they choose to work with us. ​​I immersed myself in the dynamic world of executive networking, cultivating relationships that would shape my path forward. This foundational experience helped me grasp our core purpose and offerings.

I then moved to operations to master the behind-the-scenes logistics of our event execution. I learned to bring people together, engage audiences through email and social media, and ensure successful events for both our clients and guests. This is where I found myself drawn to the intricacies of event management, where every detail mattered in crafting unforgettable experiences.

Today, with these sets of skills and responsibilities under my belt, I decided to move to the events logistics team to support our account managers with organising, budgeting, and executing engaging event experiences as the Head of Events (mainly in APAC and ANZ), where I lead a team dedicated to pushing boundaries and redefining what’s possible in the world of executive gatherings. This role gives me a premier ticket to travel around the world to experience our corporate events first-hand and meet experts from various fields. I have also had opportunities to be the Master of Ceremony for our events, where I honed my public speaking abilities and connected with points of contact of the most prominent and sought-after venues in the region.

 

What’s the most exciting part of your role?

The most exciting aspect of my role is definitely curating unique experiences for our clients. I enjoy selecting captivating venues and proposing them with creative finesse. Looking for novel gift ideas and personal touches that remind guests of their amazing experience during our event is always a thrill—engraved glassware, personalised tumblers, you name it!

However, I’m conscious that a lot of event merchandise winds up in landfills, harming the environment and defeating what our company values stand for. So, I strive to thoughtfully design insightful, eco-friendly experiences. Finding innovative ways to delight clients and make their lives easier while prioritising sustainability is an exciting challenge I take creatively and thoughtfully.

Personalising every event allows me to tap into my passion for curation while upholding our company’s commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences responsibly. At The Ortus Club, every day is an opportunity to ignite passion and inspire greatness. That’s what gets me truly energised each day.

 

What’s an initiative you’re particularly excited about?

One initiative I’m really excited about is our blog series spotlighting top venues worldwide. It aligns perfectly with our knowledge-sharing goals. We get to showcase fresh locations and unique venues while spreading the word about innovative food and beverage options.

Our guests dine at the finest establishments globally, so they constantly seek interesting, novel experiences to explore. By highlighting up-and-coming spots through posts, we keep them inspired with new possibilities. Doing so allows us to provide value and reinforces our position as trendsetters in the premier events space. Finding hidden gems and personalising them to fit our client’s goals allows me to be creative and resourceful in the best ways. After all, curating and executing incredible experiences for people is what we do best!

 

What’s one event you are particularly proud of?

One event I’m particularly proud of is the large-scale, two-day event experience we curated in Kuala Lumpur. By incorporating meditation classes, sound healing, and tea ceremonies, we treated attendees to a truly immersive journey. We’ve been focusing on offering larger scale event services with Ortus Experience and it’s been so exciting so far.

Our client aimed to position themselves as more than an industry leader—a potential partner for growth across various sectors. Together, we hosted a unique event for C-suite executives and technology luminaries at the luxurious Chateau Spa & Wellness Resort in Malaysia’s Berjaya Hills. Guests were immersed in relaxing activities balanced with insightful talks and roundtables laser-focused on accelerating transformation and fostering a culture of innovation. The nurturing environment of personal wellness and professional development left attendees feeling rejuvenated and inspired.

Executing such a multifaceted event seamlessly while delivering outstanding hospitality was immensely rewarding. But witnessing clients forge new connections and walk away with actionable strategies for propelling their businesses forward – that’s what made this experience truly special in my eyes.
