The masterclass event in Seoul, focused on “Expanding Globally: Payment Strategies for Enterprises,” proved to be a resounding success, bringing together a distinguished group of enterprise leaders from top finance, payments, and technology organisations eager to delve into the complexities of scaling payment solutions for global trade. The event with Stripe began with a warm welcome, setting the stage for a day of engaging discussions centred around the evolving landscape of global payments. The opening remarks highlighted the importance of securing reliable and scalable payment infrastructures as businesses increasingly look to expand internationally.

The first session featured a comprehensive presentation on the powerful capabilities of Stripe’s solutions, demonstrating how businesses can seamlessly create storefronts, manage subscription plans, calculate taxes, and streamline the payment process for sellers. The live demo highlighted how Stripe’s tools can empower businesses to build and scale their payment operations, offering solutions that are both efficient and adaptable for global expansion.

During the session, several compelling statistics were shared, underscoring the urgency and potential of digital payments in today’s global economy. Currently, 2.1 billion people are shopping online worldwide. This massive shift in consumer behaviour is contributing to the digital economy’s rapid growth, particularly in Southeast Asia, where the digital economy is expected to triple in size, reaching 450 trillion KRW by 2025. Similarly, the US online sales market is projected to reach 1,750 trillion KRW by 2024, with European e-commerce expected to grow by 47%, reaching the same figure by 2025. These numbers highlight the growing demand for robust and scalable payment solutions as businesses aim to meet the needs of a global customer base.

The conversation also explored the importance of offering flexible payment options. Attendees were reminded of the significance of customer satisfaction and how providing multiple payment choices can enhance the overall consumer experience, whether for domestic or international transactions.

Further discussions touched on the challenges businesses face when selecting billing software, particularly in ensuring flexibility while maintaining security and reliability. As the discussion progressed, more statistics were shared that shed light on key customer behaviours. For example, 1 in 3 shoppers will abandon their purchase if prices are not displayed in their local currency, while 1 in 5 will do so if their preferred local payment method is not available. Additionally, 1 in 4 international card payments fail when processed through a local payment gateway due to unclear reasons. These insights underscored the critical need for businesses to optimise their payment experiences to avoid losing customers at key touchpoints.

The session also explored innovative business models, such as usage-based pricing, subscriptions, and invoicing. These new monetisation strategies were discussed as transformative approaches that businesses can leverage to enhance their payment offerings and create new revenue streams. As the conversation shifted to scaling businesses both locally and internationally, participants shared insights on the lessons learned from expanding cross-border and how to navigate the challenges of international expansion.

Overall, the event with Stripe was a success, fostering an environment of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Attendees walked away with a deeper understanding of how to optimise their payment strategies, from leveraging Stripe’s innovative solutions to exploring new monetisation models. The discussions sparked new ideas and provided practical solutions that attendees can implement within their own organisations, making the event a key moment for driving forward global payment strategies in the ever-evolving digital trade landscape.
